Police sunglasses – purely Expendable
Police designer sunglasses are firmly masculine in appeal, although the unisex designs are just as flattering on women. Inspired by those worn by the US police force, Police designer sunglasses are instantly recognisable and very, very cool. The shades of choice for alpha males everywhere, they are perfect accessories in Hollywood action movies – which is why they feature in Sylvester Stallone’s latest box-office hit, The Expendables.
Also starring Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Dolph Lungren and Eric Roberts, the film revolves around a team of professional mercenaries who are called upon to overthrow a corrupt regime in South America. The mercenaries are easy to tell from the bad guys – they’re the ones sporting specially commissioned wrap-round Police designer sunglasses, now available as part of a limited edition box set in the US.
Sly Stallone is Italian by birth, so it comes as no surprise to learn that Police sunglasses have a similar Italian ancestry, having been launched by De Rigo in the 1980s. The sporty image is enhanced by some neat designer touches – such as gothic and Art Deco elements. Every model has its own unique style and contours, with the “Expendables” limited edition being no exception. Combining the sleek lines of Police’s 8177 model, with the double bridge detail of their 1626 design, every pair is numbered and available in just one colour – gun metal (as you’d expect.)
Police also make prescription glasses, which are as stylish as their shades. Considering that several members of the Expendables cast are hardly in their first flush of youth, this is no bad thing. Stallone and Schwarzenegger, for two, wear prescription glasses off-set – suspiciously like those made by Police.
