Founded in 1937 Ray-Ban is one of the major leading suppliers of sunglasses and prescription glasses. Originally introduced for the United States Army Air Corps after a Lieutenant John MacCready returned from a balloon flying adventure, he complained that the sun's rays had permanently damaged his eyes. Bausch and Lomb were initiated to manufacture sunglasses that provided the best protection possible but also looked great. Hence the start of a phenomenon that were Ray-Ban sunglasses.
From film stars to rock bands, Ray-Bans can be found globally. Even US president Barack Obama wears them. As of late the original avaiators and wayfarers have made a massive comeback in more vibrant frame and lens colours to be iconic in the fashion world.
In July 2004 Ray-Ban made the partnership with the Formula 1 racing team Honda. Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello and Anthony Davidson had the Ray-Ban logo on their helmets as well as being on the cockpit sides of the Honda formula one cars. 2009 saw Ray-Ban continue their sponsorship of the Brawn GP following Honda's exit from Formula 1. Ray-Bans can be seen on all of the team at Brawn GP. Following Jenson Button's great start to the year he is already backed by winners.
